The controversy over soy and breast cancer was settled three years ago, when scientists stopped doing the studies in mice and did them directly in humans, and today they have finally been published.

The studies were conducted in the USA and Asia, where soy is regularly consumed. These large population studies show that soy products are not harmful.

Therefore, women with breast cancer, even if they are estrogen receptor positive or women at risk of developing cancer, can enjoy soy and soy products as part of a balanced diet.

Benefits of tofu

Tofu is an excellent source of plant-based iron, key to the proper functioning of the liver, spleen, and muscles.

Consuming it regularly prevents anemia, muscle weakness, exhaustion, cognitive impairment and risk of infections.

Similarly, tofu is not only an excellent source of protein (10 to 20%, depending on firmness) but is assimilated very well by the body due to its excellent combination of essential amino acids.

Tofu is rich in minerals and vitamins. Contains vitamins from groups B and E, important for the nervous system; and minerals such as iron, phosphorus, selenium and potassium.

Its calcium and magnesium levels are amazing.

It contains a higher amount of calcium than cow’s milk (100 grams = 3.5oz of tofu contains 159 mg of calcium).

Therefore, tofu is a good food to combat bone problems, osteoporosis and cavities.

In addition, it facilitates the regeneration of bone fractures. It is known that people who consume tofu regularly suffer 30% less osteoporosis than those who do not.

Tofu helps cardiovascular health. Scientific studies indicate that consuming 25 grams of soy protein a day not only helps reduce cholesterol and triglycerides, but also prevents heart diseases such as coronary disease and atherosclerosis.

People with thyroid problems should not consume it, because it contains goitrogens, a substance that deprives the production of their hormones.
